Perspective / Focus "If you're painting a cube, you need only get one corner right"-- Ma Yuan lived from about 1190 to about 1224
Ma Yuan was noted for the asymmetry of his compositions. The focus of these paintings is often off to one comer or side (rather than at the center), and actually became known as "one-corner Ma" He lived up to his name by restricting most of the paint to a small portion of his canvases, often in the corner. The emphasis here is on "less" rather than "more," on suggestion rather than full statement.
"MapArt"; the combined effect of image and text is an attempt to ...
...provide information, context, and direction (?)
The style is engaging, stimulating, playful, and memorable
X intimate, lyrical, and delicate
